Massillon Wins Scrimmage 35 – 0 over
Fremont
Ross
Saturday, August 18, 2007

Friday evening, the
Fremont Ross Little Giants and the Massillon Tigers met once again to
scrimmage each other at Don Paul Stadium in Fremont.
Both teams planned
on using this scrimmage as an evaluating tool for where the teams
stand. One team stood out more than the other, and that team was the
mighty fast Massillon Tigers. Massillon went en route to win the
scrimmage 35 – 0 in two 12 minute halves. “I think
Massillon’s going
to end up being real good this year”
said Coach Kidwell.
Last year, Fremont
Ross scrimmaged Massillon, they lost that scrimmage too on a very
close 28 – 26 score.
At times, the team
was looking very promising and others weren’t so pleasant.
“I thought our
defense would come out and play a lot better than what they did,
considering some of the starters we have coming back” said Coach
Kidwell. “Missing tackles, there’s no excuse for that”
Things started to
look promising as Massillon’s kicker missed a 30-yard Field Goal
attempt and therefore resulting in giving the Little Giants the ball
back. But however, they would soon overturn the ball back to
Massillon.
“Our defense was
real strong, and they missed the field goal and they just gave it back
to them. We can’t do that against average and not average teams, let
alone very good teams.”
“We didn’t show
a lot of our offense, there are packages we haven’t done, that we’ll
keep in our back pocket until we need them and our kids know that.”
A few players took
turns at running back, Cory Daniels, Tyler Hull, Greg Brown, and Aaron
Spencer. All the backs show a lot of potential especially Greg Brown
and Aaron Spencer. Now which one will be the main running back? Most
likely they will share turns over the course of the season to share
the pounding of a 10 week season.
The starting QB
should be decided later in the week after Kidwell watches them in
practice more.
“We told our
kids that this is just a glorified practice what it is.”
Until then, “We’ll
go back to the drawing board” stated Coach Kidwell.

Scrimmage with
Mansfield and Toledo St. Johns!
Saturday, August 11, 2007

Last Friday at 6 P.M.,
area fans got a chance to see the 2007 Fremont Ross Little Giants in
action as Fremont Ross scrimmaged Mansfield and Toledo St. Johns, both
Varsity and Junior Varsity teams were at Don Paul Stadium.
Expectations are high for
the Fremont Ross Little Giants, after coming of a 10 - 0 and a state
playoff berth. But most fans are wondering about the offensive
aspect of this year's team, such as the passing game and running game.
Last year, fans got a chance to enjoy watching an All-Ohio 1st Team
Quarterback Ryan Ottney and All-Ohio 1st Team Running Back Devin
Johnson, which both were lost to graduation and will be continuing
their football careers at Urbana.
Brad Woleslagel and Cody
Foos took snaps at quarterback on Varsity and Kyle Damman took the
snaps on the Junior Varsity. Both quarterbacks ran the ball on the
ground well and gain some tough yards.
But speaking of gaining
yards on the ground, several athletes ran the ball on Friday's
scrimmage, just to name a few of them were Cory Daniels, Ryan Quick
and Kameron Allicock. On the Junior Varsity side of the ball,
Aaron Spencer ran the ball VERY well and have a good chance of seeing
him more often.
FremontRossFootball.com
got a few comments from Coach Kidwell about Friday Night's scrimmage!
The
Offensive side seemed to struggle a little big early on in the
scrimmaged, but towards the end, it seemed like everything started to
click, especially in the passing department. The biggest problems that
was noticed where a few bad exchanges between the centers and
quarterbacks, but we know the coaching staff will address that before
the season starts. We asked how Coach
Kidwell felt about the performance Offensively and Defensively.
OFFENSE
"I
guess we came out a little sluggish early on, I thought that would
happen when kids haven’t played varsity before, some jitters, we
settled down and finished the night real strong. I thought once
our quarterbacks settled down, it made a world of difference on
offense." said
Coach Kidwell.
DEFENSE
"I thought
we ran to the ball well on defense, we don’t tackle a lot in
practice. Great effort from the Kids."
said Coach Kidwell.
We asked
about the running performance of Aaron Spencer on the JV Squad after
watching an impressive performance, here is what Coach Kidwell had to
say.
Yeah, he’s
going to be good, he needs to get some reps, get a little bigger, he
may find his way onto the field on Friday Nights, we don’t know yet,
we’re going to open up the competition and see what happens.
said Coach Kidwell.
Terrance Davis, also had an excellent day, 4 touchdown catches, which
is going to be a tough match up for any defender that they may face in
the upcoming season.
The good news is, that the team came out injury free and have a lot of
positive things to look forward to.
If you
missed Friday Night's action, make sure you get a chance to come back
out to Don Paul Stadium, Friday evening at 6 P.M. when the Fremont
Ross Little Giants take on the Massillon Tigers in another exciting
scrimmage. Until then, feel free to check back here at

BREAKING NEWS
We asked Coach Kidwell
about the 2007 Captains and here is what we were told. "The Seniors
voted to NOT have captains and instead they will rotate."
Two - A - Days
Start Today!
August 2, 2007

Footballs in the air,
young athletes hitting the gridiron, coaches evaluating players, well
this can only mean one thing. Two A Days are here and football
season is near. Roughly 70 players, give or take a few showed up
for Two A Days. Two A Days officially started this morning at
7:30 A.M. on the practice fields behind Fremont Ross High School.
Soon there after, they would be broken up into three groups where they
would their respective coaches would began to instruct the players.
The groups were broken down into Offense, Defense, and Offensive and
Defensive Lines.
FremontRossFootball.com
was able to get a few words from Head Coach Derek Kidwell about the
Off-Season and Upcoming Season.
The players responded
well during the Off-Season, there was good participation in the weight
room. But most importantly the players felt the rewards and
benefits of last years success and are working hard this season. "We
got a great Senior Class" Kidwell stated.
"The Offense is going to
be good" Kidwell stated. There will be 6-7 starters returning on
Offense. The team is going to rely on the Offensive Line more
this season with two young inexperienced Quarterbacks. We need
them to allow our QB's to get into safe passing positions to make the
best possible play. They won't be throwing 40-50 times a game,
but they are improving as the more practice they get.
"We have got 8 starters
returning on Defense. The Defense is going to be very
interchangeable which is good for us." Kidwell stated. This will
make it hard for the offenses to figure out. Kameron Allicock
played five different positions last year will be starting at Free
Safety for the Little Giants in 2007. To sum up the defense,
basically they are going to be extremely fast and very aggressive.
Well, that sums it up.
Expectations are high and the Little Giants should expect another
great season. But whatever happens during the season, go out and
support your student athletes under the lights on Fridays! Good
Luck Little Giants!
